How to apply

  • It's easy! First you need to order your FREE resource pack. This gives you a fantastic teaching resource but also all the guidance and supporting material you need to submit an application, including the required application form.
  • To be considered for an award, schools need to submit a folder of work ('portfolio of evidence') and completed application form (mainstream or special school) by post. The portfolio should support and bring to life the completed application form.
  • On the application form you will need to indicate the level of award you are applying for (£1,000, £2,000, £5,000 or £10,000) and your region. This should match the budget plans in your portfolio.
  • More detail is given in the resource pack but the portfolio of evidence is just a way of sharing with the judges the project planning process and final output. It should show a clear plan of how the school would spend any award money and the work that the children have put in to decide on their dream play space.
  • Curriculum targets in a number of different subjects can be met through activities in the resource pack - from English and Maths, to ICT, Science and Geography, Citizenship and PSHE/PSE/PSD/PDMU.

"It is a great way to teach the curriculum in 'real terms'. The motivation and enthusiasm from all involved was amazing to see"

  • Judging will take place during August and September and awards will be announced in late October.

Useful information

  • Schools should include a selection of evidence in their portfolio that will support their application. The best examples should be selected to demonstrate the process your pupils have gone through and the work they have generated.
  • The portfolio might include work such as a log-book, budgets, surveys, poems, stories, drawings, facts and figures, graphs, and photos.
  • Judges will be looking, above all, for involvement from the children in all aspects of the process.
  • The portfolio of evidence must be contained within one A3-sized folder or smaller, sent by post in a single A3-sized padded envelope or smaller.
  • You can send multi-media supplements with your portfolio such as video recordings and CD-ROMs, but please bear in mind that the judges can only commit to watching a 5-minute excerpt.
  • Full terms and conditions are included at the back of the resource pack.
